Total Data Modeling

The Art and Science of Information Management

PROJECT
Major Multi-National Bank
PROBLEM
Network data scattered across multiple systems and platforms.
SOLUTION
Designed a database to hold bank network information and server processes around it based on a layered process architecture to translate Relational and Object-Oriented into each other. The messaging architecture allowed the information server and satellite Object-Oriented clients to communicate asynchronously with each other. Overall design used state-of-the-art technology and a design methodology that has yet to be been surpassed.

PROJECT
Government Labor-Related Insurance
PROBLEM
Redundant clients and claimants data across various departmental systems.
SOLUTION
Coached data modelers in doing a logical data model to merge and normalize party information from various databases and spreadsheets in order to create and Master Data Management (MDM) system. Worked with various business users (mainly from Claims and Policy departments), along with other consultants to map the needed processes. Worked with managers to control scope creep.

PROJECT
Financial Instruments Data System
PROBLEM
Need for centralized information gathering and database consolidation.
SOLUTION
Created logical and physical model for investment instrument information and management system and implemented the database using Sybase. The database was very comprehensive and covered a wide array of instruments. Information included hierarchy; details on related issuers; corporate actions; quotes; trades management; factor and sector models; indexing; investment universes for strategies; trade and fund accounting. The implementation of this project used an original, custom-developed technique called Shadow Table which supported both complete change audit and ready-data warehouse sourcing.

PROJECT
Human Resources Applicant Management System
PROBLEM
Complete database re-write.
SOLUTION
Conducted a complete rewrite and redesign of database system containing information about job applicant entry and employee promotion examinations (both written and oral) as well as related activities: exam requests; scheduling; scoring and selection. Project duration was four years. System was implemented in three phases. Kept several key executives abreast of progress including the HR Director.
